Summary

The growth of the multinational enterprise (MNE) has led to an increasing interest in international business strategy from scholars, professionals, and policy makers alike。 MNEs must contend with challenges in both their home and host international markets, and increasingly uncertain conditions in the international business environment demand superior firm-level capabilities for multinational firms to achieve and maintain competitive advantages in the long-run。

This Handbook explores the progress made in international business strategy theory and practice in the last few decades。 Written by an international team of leading experts, it captures the differences in motivations and decision-making processes between smaller and larger firms, private, family, and state owned firms, and emerging or developed market multinationals。 It elaborates on the links between international strategy and the social responsibilities of the firm in its various host market contexts, including the deployment of effective and ethical human resource practices in international markets。 Most importantly, it lays out how the classic principles of international competitive strategy are transformed in today's markets, in great part due to digitalization, and provides suggestions on how MNEs can develop international business strategies to respond to these transformations。 The implications of these discussions for strategy and practice are becoming ever more profound。 This Handbook will prove a valuable resource for both international business scholars and practitioners。

I'm not a fan of biographies but I must say I enjoyed this one。 I'm British, so I had to read this book written by a national treasure of ours。 These anecdotes deal with a lot of heavy topics such as abuse, the music industry, and motherhood。 The chapters are easily divided and make the book a quick read。 I'm not a fan of biographies but I must say I enjoyed this one。 I'm British, so I had to read this book written by a national treasure of ours。 These anecdotes deal with a lot of heavy topics such as abuse, the music industry, and motherhood。 The chapters are easily divided and make the book a quick read。 。。。more

An honest account of family and partner relationships, grief, and the music industry from 2001-2010。 Easy and quick to read。

"Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits" has always been my favourite line of Lily's and in this book, she did just that。 Raw, sincere, powerful - had me sobbing。 "Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits" has always been my favourite line of Lily's and in this book, she did just that。 Raw, sincere, powerful - had me sobbing。 。。。more

This book surprised me, I wasn't a massive Lily Allen fan, I'm still not to be honest I only know like one or two of her songs & remember when she used to rock a dress & some trainers lol。 Anyway I randomly ended up reading this when I was working in Ibiza, someone left a tattered copy of it in a hotel my friend borrowed it & read it & passed it on to me and said I would like it! It was written like she was almost having a conversation with you in a bar telling you her best & worst stories over a strong drink !! She just came across as very down to earth & I liked that we have worked in the same place。 Lily has overcome a lot of struggles & strife in her life so far and I'm glad I took a chance on reading all about it。 。。。more

Lily Allen’s reflections are self aware but not self serving。 They feel brutally honest but not raw。 The book itself reads very well (I finished it it one sitting) giving important insights to her experience of stardom and breakdown。 These are all commendable and important things and yet there’s something unsatisfying about it, probably to do with the writing。

Loved this book! Refreshingly honest, even when it doesn’t shine the best light on her。

4,5 stars ⭐️ I liked how honestly Allen talked about everything but how she also admitted to telling “her truth” and how things might look different from someone else’s perspective。 Doesn’t come across as self-pitying which could’ve been a problem considering the subject matter。 I also enjoyed some of the sneak peeks into the reality of the music industry, like when Allen discussed the Brit awards etc。 I’ve never really listened to Allen’s music but I’ve always been aware of her existence throug 4,5 stars ⭐️ I liked how honestly Allen talked about everything but how she also admitted to telling “her truth” and how things might look different from someone else’s perspective。 Doesn’t come across as self-pitying which could’ve been a problem considering the subject matter。 I also enjoyed some of the sneak peeks into the reality of the music industry, like when Allen discussed the Brit awards etc。 I’ve never really listened to Allen’s music but I’ve always been aware of her existence through media and it was interesting to learn more about her and to hear her own side of the story for once。 。。。more

Was a fan of Lily in my late teens and early twenties so seemed like a good enough reason to read this。 Really enjoyed learning more about her and what she's gone through over the years。 Made me see her in a different light。 Was a fan of Lily in my late teens and early twenties so seemed like a good enough reason to read this。 Really enjoyed learning more about her and what she's gone through over the years。 Made me see her in a different light。 。。。more

Listening to Lily Allen read her own book brought a further dimension to this raw, at times funny and other times saddening memoir of her life。 Lily is so honest throughout this memoir- she isn’t afraid to voice her inner demons, her faults & the experiences she has had。 The discussion of the loss of her son & how she dealt with it was a heartbreaking section of this memoir for me。 As a mother myself, it is inconceivable to think of the loss of a child & Lily talks about it in a honest & raw way Listening to Lily Allen read her own book brought a further dimension to this raw, at times funny and other times saddening memoir of her life。 Lily is so honest throughout this memoir- she isn’t afraid to voice her inner demons, her faults & the experiences she has had。 The discussion of the loss of her son & how she dealt with it was a heartbreaking section of this memoir for me。 As a mother myself, it is inconceivable to think of the loss of a child & Lily talks about it in a honest & raw way。 This is one of my favourite memoirs in recent years。 。。。more

I am attracted to music biographies like Elvis to a Fool's Gold Loaf, so I was very excited when I saw Lily Allen had released her 'tell all' on audiobook。 I was dubious when I saw she narrated the book and this proved to be warranted - I've said it before and I will say it again, *please* authors, leave the voice actors to it。 I wanted to love My Thoughts Exactly but I found myself exhausted by Lily's constant introspective psychoanalysis and reflection。 From the very first paragraph I understo I am attracted to music biographies like Elvis to a Fool's Gold Loaf, so I was very excited when I saw Lily Allen had released her 'tell all' on audiobook。 I was dubious when I saw she narrated the book and this proved to be warranted - I've said it before and I will say it again, *please* authors, leave the voice actors to it。 I wanted to love My Thoughts Exactly but I found myself exhausted by Lily's constant introspective psychoanalysis and reflection。 From the very first paragraph I understood her drive to unpick and understand her life up to the point of publication, but unfortunately it didn't make for an gripping story。 I felt like there was a lot of repetition in this book where Lily would Do Something Questionable, then explain why she did The Questionable Thing and include lots of references to the traumas that contributed to her doing The Questionable Thing。 Rinse。 And。 Repeat。 It's not that I took offense to her deep self-analysis, it was more that this felt less like a memoir and more like a psychologists notes。 While this would have been an extremely interesting and rewarding process for Lily, as a reader it was a bit tedious。One thing I always appreciate about celebrity biographies is the way they reinforce that underneath it all, celebrities are just people。 While fame often comes with money, power and status, Lily's book also demonstrates some of the negatives that come with that territory。 Like invasion of privacy and stalking。Overall I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone other than the most dedicated fans。 Unfortunately it didn't hit the mark for me。 。。。more

Listened to the audiobook on Youtube。I did not really follow the life of Lily Allen in the gossip pages, I only listen to her music from time to time。By coincidence, I stumbled onto her book on Youtube, and it sounded interesting。 A way to fill my day of teleworking。 She is straight forward, and has that f*-it mentality, which I can truly appreciate。 You know, tell it like it is。 Should she be a little less aggressive, probably。 Should she control her outrages of anger, yes。But she knows who she Listened to the audiobook on Youtube。I did not really follow the life of Lily Allen in the gossip pages, I only listen to her music from time to time。By coincidence, I stumbled onto her book on Youtube, and it sounded interesting。 A way to fill my day of teleworking。 She is straight forward, and has that f*-it mentality, which I can truly appreciate。 You know, tell it like it is。 Should she be a little less aggressive, probably。 Should she control her outrages of anger, yes。But she knows who she is。 She knows she freaks out from time to time, and she owns that。I don't like the way she so casually talks about doing drugs。 Or her surroundings。 That's not something I'm used to。 But I can understand that life in the spotlight isn't easy。Certainly not when you're dealing with serious trauma。 Not a single person should experience the pain of losing a child。 Maybe we can show a little more compassion to everybody around else。Because everybody is dealing with something。 Everybody has got a tragic backstory。Maybe we should listen before we judge 。。。more

Self aware and really quite heartbreaking at times。 Also can’t believe how much can happen in such a short amount of time too。 I got through this really quickly, Lily is a great writer - witty, direct and raw。

An unflinchingly honest and candid account of a young British pop star who has largely gone unnoticed in America。 Allen rose to stardom at a very young age, using MySpace and social media to promote her singing career。 Much to her credit, she admits that nepotism, by way of her famous father, Keith Allen, got her foot in the door。 Personally, I'm not so much a fan of mid 2000's to early 2010's pop, which coincides with the apex of Allen's career, but do much appreciate her 2006 solo debut, which An unflinchingly honest and candid account of a young British pop star who has largely gone unnoticed in America。 Allen rose to stardom at a very young age, using MySpace and social media to promote her singing career。 Much to her credit, she admits that nepotism, by way of her famous father, Keith Allen, got her foot in the door。 Personally, I'm not so much a fan of mid 2000's to early 2010's pop, which coincides with the apex of Allen's career, but do much appreciate her 2006 solo debut, which holds up well, even today。Allen purges, well, just about everything there is to purge: a narcissistic and absentee father, a dysfunctional, neglected childhood, a self-admitted history of co-dependent behavior, daddy issues, relationship drama, rampant substance abuse, self-destructive conduct, anti-authoritarianism, expulsions from multiple schools, addictions to prescription drugs and periods of risky sexual behavior, losing a child and dealing with postpartum depression, a failed marriage, and a chronic inability to set healthy boundaries for herself。 Her stories of youthful indiscretions remind me of my own wild times as a partier and recreational drug user in my late teens to early twenties, albeit mine were nowhere nearly as bold and prolific as hers。 She seems to romanticize them a little, though now, writing in her early thirties, she realizes the great risks she ran。 One wonders if the thrill will fade with time。What many other reviewers have commented on is her take on fame: a fair portrayal justly criticized, or merely a self-serving rant of the financially privileged and the fortunate? In some ways, it's easy to be sympathetic of her conduct in our interpretation as readers, while in other ways she can be seen as a product of the unreal world of perpetually spoiled children。 Allen is rightly critical of the double standards of the recording industry, especially as regards unrealistic standards of physical beauty and youthfulness of its female stars。 And she makes compelling points to counter the paradoxical nature of fame--its supreme benefits and great drawbacks, especially its great effectiveness of destroying all semblance of anonymity, sometimes at the expense of personal safety。There are a few bombshell revelations here, but it doesn't read like a scandal sheet or shocking tell-all。 Allen's damage has been mostly self-inflicted, but she does make a point to underscore the still-potent wage discrepancies between male artists and female artists, and she does show the consequences that women in the industry face in simply seeking to speak their lived truth。 A few anecdotes reveal the predatory nature of toxic masculinity embedded within rock culture, some of which have been challenged recently by the #metoo movement。 Like many books I critique here, it doesn't take long to make one's way all the way through。 Allen is a competent writer and most of her narrative holds together well, though as a self-admitted school dropout, who has not sit for a single exam, one wonders how much is raw talent and how much is due to the skills of a talented editor。 。。。more

Proof that you don’t have to be a perfect victim or a hero to everyone in your life to write a worthy memoir。 The author can’t look at her life through anyone else’s lens。 Her account is fascinating, simply written, and honest in her own way。

This book is so open & raw on so many important topics- specifically towards female celebrities。 Lily’s talks through her personal experiences, lessons she’s learnt and uses her voice to help make a difference through this beautiful memoir。 I couldn’t put it down, she got to her point without biting around the bullet- her ‘Thoughts Exactly’。 Such a refreshing, honest book。

I don't normally get on with celebrity autobiographies or memoirs, but this completely hooked me from start to finish。 It could be the fact that I have always been a Lily Allen fan, but her honesty and her ability to not hold back on discussing every thought and feeling that she has had through the trials and tribulations of her life and career is very admirable。 This is not something a lot of people in the public eye are willing to do and I think some of the criticisms of this piece of work see I don't normally get on with celebrity autobiographies or memoirs, but this completely hooked me from start to finish。 It could be the fact that I have always been a Lily Allen fan, but her honesty and her ability to not hold back on discussing every thought and feeling that she has had through the trials and tribulations of her life and career is very admirable。 This is not something a lot of people in the public eye are willing to do and I think some of the criticisms of this piece of work seem to be from people who do not really understand what Lily was trying to achieve。 I like the fact that she jumps back and forth through timelines as it feels more honest and true rather than an awkward day by day recollection of the events that happened。 。。。more

Lily Allen is a much more complicated human than I knew。 This book is a raw honest account of her life and experiences with fame。 I’ve always liked her off beat style and ability to say fuck you, or bitch “too much” in a song。 This made me like her more。 Some places are very triggering and difficult to process but it’s worth it。 (I wish she used the term sex worker instead of alternatives)

A little bit repetitive but this is also a story about someone's LIFE, and which in the most simple of ways isn't everyone's life a little repetitive? You get real straightforward content here, nothing held back (maybe a little, just in the whole taking responsibility for your actions subcategory) but that's what makes it great, a real dive into character/ trauma/ and family and how that in turn is, shaken up and spit back out by the monster fame machine。。。through her eyes we get to see the way A little bit repetitive but this is also a story about someone's LIFE, and which in the most simple of ways isn't everyone's life a little repetitive? Such a good read and very eye opening! I’ve always been a big fan of Lily Allen and looked forward to finally reading her book。 This was honest, real and really interesting to get an insight into her life in her own words。 It’s no surprise this was a number one Sunday times bestseller - Highly recommended!
